Fire Door Ratings & Applications
We supply the appropriate fire-rated door for the specific application and required fire-resistance rating.
The fire-rating label should remain visible on the door, commonly along the hinge edge or another accessible location. The label identifies important information including the fire-resistance rating, manufacturer and applicable certification information.
20 Minute Door
- Designed to withstand fire exposure for at least 20 minutes
- Acts as a barrier to help contain flames and smoke

45 Minute Door
- Designed to withstand fire and smoke exposure for at least 45 minutes

- Constructed using approved fire-rated materials

- Stairwell / corridor entry and exit door applications: 45 minutes
- Commonly used in corridors, stairwells and service areas
90 Minute Door
- Designed to resist fire, flames and smoke for at least 90 minutes
- Provides increased protection in higher-risk areas
- Used in applicable higher fire-resistance-rated assemblies
- Helps protect exit routes
- Furnace Room | Electrical Room applications: 90 minutes

Doors That Do Not Meet Fire Code: Common Fire Door Violations
Fire inspectors regularly flag the following conditions as Ontario Fire Code deficiencies. If any of these apply to doors in your building, they will need to be corrected.
- Hollow-core doors – Hollow doors are not fire-rated and cannot be used where a rated fire door is required.
- Doors without fire-rating labels – Every fire door must carry a visible label (name plate) identifying its rating. Unlabelled doors cannot be verified and will be cited.
- Non-fire-rated hardware – Hinges, door closers and latching hardware must be fire-rated and approved for use on fire doors.
- Doors that do not close and seal properly – A fire door must close fully and latch into its frame. Gaps between the door and frame allow smoke and fire to pass through and are not accepted by the fire department.
